If you’ve achieved the hair of your dreams and want to keep its unstoppable vibrancy and moisturized shine for as long as possible, we’ve got you covered. There are many quick, easy things you can do at home, so your hair keeps its vibrant shine in between color top-ups.

How to get shiny hair

Here are some of our top tips on how to maintain shiny, color treated hair.

Use the right color treatment

Reaching for the right hair color can make a huge difference to the lasting vibrancy of your hair. With some hair dyes, the color and shine can fade within a few washes. But our Bold & Bright color treatment is designed to keep your hair looking vibrant. It’s made with TrueColorSeal technology, which helps lock in the color, so your hair maintains its moisturized shine.

If it does start to fade, we’ve prepared for that too. Each box comes equipped with a Color Boost Glaze, for an extra color boost whenever you need it. With 12 bold shades to choose from, your dream hair is only a Clairol hair color away.

Use conditioner

Look at conditioner like a moisturizer for your hair that helps replenish moisture and shine with each hair wash. Each Bold & Bright shade comes equipped with our very own HydraShine conditioner, which is specially designed for colored hair, and works by adding a protective layer between your hair and the color fading effects of water.

We’d also recommend using a hair mask once a week for an extra moisture top-up between washes.¹

Take colder showers

As much as we all love a hot shower, when it comes to hair care, a colder one is the way to go.

Warm water opens your hair cuticles, leaving more space for moisture and color to escape. But if like us, the thought of a cold shower sends shivers down your spine, a cool rinse at the end of each shower helps to close these cuticles and lock in the shine. It also helps stop the color from escaping, preventing those brassy tones

Limit using heat

Whenever possible, we’d recommend embracing your natural hair. Any heat your hair is exposed to can damage the hair's protective layers, allowing natural moisture to easily escape. This can dry out your hair, making it more likely to break and appear dull.²

On the days you do want to give your hair a little extra styling, make sure to reach for heat-protectant spray before you do anything else!

Look after your scalp

When you think of shiny hair it’s easy to just focus on your glossy locks, but it’s important to remember the scalp too.

It’s the scalp’s job to produce sebum, which naturally adds moisture to the hair. So, one of the best things you can do to increase how much sebum you produce is give yourself a nice pampering scalp massage.¹

All you need to do is move your fingertips in a circular motion until you cover the whole head. Relaxed yet? We definitely are.

Another benefit to doing this is that it can also encourage hair growth by encouraging blood circulation to the scalp. So, if you lust after shiny, longer locks, it’s a win-win.

More dyed hair tips

Here are some other quick, easy things you can include in your daily routine to help achieve a salon fresh, glossy look.

Switch to silk

Switching to a silk pillowcase can work wonders for the hair. With very little friction between your hair and the fabric, there’s less chance of it breaking, meaning fewer split ends and unwanted frizz. ¹

Take care of wet hair

Wet hair is weaker and needs a little bit more looking after. We’d recommend switching up your routine a bit so that it has time to air dry before you go to sleep. That way it’s less likely to break, so the shine and color will last longer.³

Buy a boar bristle brush

Polyester and plastic used in some brushes can be harsh on the hair and cause breakages, leaving hair damaged and lackluster. A boar bristle brush is much gentler and a great way to take care of your hair. ¹

Healthy hair foods

Loading up on foods that are high in omega-3 and fatty acids works wonders for hair health. Having a bit of fun in the kitchen and developing some recipes with some of these ingredients is a great way to help your hair shine. ¹

  • Salmon
  • Egg yolk
  • Blueberries
  • Spinach
  • Nuts

Food like these don’t help add hair shine on their own, but they do help with hair health and the healthier the hair, the more likely it is to shine.

How to make dyed hair shiny summed up

If you want to keep your colored hair looking shiny for longer, there are many different ways to do this. But don’t worry, we doubt you’ll have to do them all. By picking out just a few of the tips above your hair should keep its moisturized shine in between color top-ups. So, the only question really is, are you ready to shine?
